Harley process

Harley Process

I received positive responses to a recent Facebook post of a Harley Davidson I drew for a children's book I have in the works.

Thought I'd show the stages I go through.

T-Nail doodle

SketchUp is a great resource for reference material. You can download almost anything mechanical or structural free from their library.  Download the software first there is a free version as well.  Also a fun program to work with (I did NOT do the bike in SketchUp just downloaded an existing file).

Printed the SketchUp image at about 6x6" and worked over on tracing paper. This was sent with the rest of the images for approval.

Client wanted a more specific bike so they sent some reference photos and I revised and refined in Painter.

Nailed the final line art in Painter.

Added grey washes.  I'll add color washes to this after I bring the rest of the art to this stage.

Nutmeg Ballet Large

Nutmeg Ballet Session

This time I went big

Thanks to The Nutmeg Conservatory and Five Points Gallery for arranging the sessions.

Worked on larger paper (20x24) this session.  Took a while to get comfortable at that scale and tried a variety of larger charcoal sticks.

First three were 5 min. poses the last was three 15 min. poses.

Settled on the final art.  All digital using Painter and Photoshop in a way that looks like I didn't.  For current project in the studio.

Session One Nutmeg Ballet

Fortunate to be apart of their drawing session today, hoping to make the text two as well.  The dancers were superb, their training and skills makes it impossible for them
to strike a bad pose.  There were as many as 10 in the room the most difficult aspect for me was which pose to choose.

Poses were from 2 -10 minutes.
